ღDestination 7 ::Machu Picchu, Peruღ

Wonder: Great of Human

Location: Machu Picchu at Cusco Region, Peru

Late Afternoon at Machu Picchu
Look, there are many stage in the mountain.
Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas” is the best-known and most spectacular site in South America. Machu Picchu are quechua words that mean “old” and “mountain”. The well preserved ruins of Machu Picchu seem to almost cling to the steep hillside, surrounded by towering green mountains overlooking the Vilcanota River Valley. Even after having seen the classic photo of Machu Picchu in guide books, web sites and postcards you still cannot fail but to be impressed by the awe-inspiring location of the ruins.

It is said that the journey to this spot is a dream journey, which one must never miss. It is a journey to the top archeological site on the planet earth. Whatever your expectation out of the place would be, you will really be more than delighted to see the picturesque beauty of the place and the intoxicating power that it will have on you.

Nestled about 7500 feet above sea level, Machu Picchu is found in the Andean mountain range above the Urubamba valley. It is an ancient city lying on top of a mountain peak. There are a lot of unknown and interesting Machu Picchu facts.

This city was probably created at the peak of the Inca Empire around 1450. The site as built in typical Inca style with dry stone polished walls and it most famous buildings are ‘ the temple of sun’, ‘ the room of three windows’ and ‘Intiwatana’

Besides, you can take photo with Llamas. At Machu Picchu, you meet see this screen (Llamas with rainbow). Llamas, like the one shown here, are a common sight at Machu Picchu. Used as pack animals for centuries by Andean dwellers, the camel relatives were also sources of leather, wool, and meat for the Inca.

Tourist Infromatin:
1. Manchu Picchu is one of the new seven wonders of the world.
2. Manchu Picchu means “Old Peak” or “Old Mountain” in the
    Quechua Indian language.
3. In 1983, the Machu Picchu ruins were named a UNESCO World
     Heritage Site.
4. There are more than 150 buildings in Machu Picchu. These range
from temples to chambers, rooms, terraces, sanctuaries and baths.
5. There are more than 100 separate flights of stairs within the Machu
Picchu compound. Most of these staircases are individually carved
     from one stone slab.
6. Most of the building blocks used in the creation of Machu Picchu
weigh 50 tons or more. How these large blocks of stones were taken
up the hills remain a mystery.
7. The sacred Intihuatana stone shows the two equinoxes accurately.
8. Most Inca civilization cities were destroyed by the Spaniards in their
conquest. However, they did not touch Machu Picchu because it is
totally invisible from below, and so was not found. It is, thus, one of
the world’s most well preserved Inca city, with great archaeological
     value.
